Can I get out of an employment contract

Have you signed an employment contract?  Chances are, buried in the pages of paperwork is a non-compete clause. This little section of text might only be a couple of sentences long, but it’s incredibly important. A bad, poorly written, or otherwise unethical non-compete agreement has the potential to turn that exciting new job into, well…a veterinarian’s worst nightmare for long term career growth! 
The last thing you want is to be restricted professionally. Or feel stuck in a position you can’t leave.

Dr. Tara McCarthy is leading the change

On this episode of Living Well with Dr. Jessica Turner, we meet vterinary mom of two, Dr. Tara McCarthy.  Dr. Tara spent most of her career working in a mixed animal practice.  She is obsessed with healthy living and that's why she owns a CrossFit gym and an online health and wellness business. Her particular passion is helping working moms, like herself, who often struggle to find time to take care of themselves.
She recently just left practice life and has joined the team at Galaxy Vets as their Head of Community Engagement. She is aligned with their mission to give veterinary medicine back to veterinarians and is excited to help this amazing profession from a new angle. Tara is focused on attracting like-minded people that want to change the course of the veterinary industry and live a life of passion and fulfillment.  She also joins Galaxy Vet's commitment to changing the veterinary oath to ensure that veterinarians prioritize their own health.

Dr. Joseph Hahn talks about the latest veterinary wellbeing study

On this episode of Living Well with Dr. Jessica, our guest is Dr. Joseph Hahn, from Merck Animal Health.  Dr. Joseph talks about the results from the most recent veterinary wellness study.
From hospital directors and practice owners, to veterinary technicians, veterinarians, and administrative staff, the latest wellbeing study- conducted by AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) Merck Animal Healthand Brakke Consulting revealed the main barriers impacting those who practice veterinary medicine are the shortage of qualified staff and the fact that not all clinic or hospital employees have access to the same mental health tools as veterinarians.  👉While 92% of respondents rated increased stress as one of their top mental health challenges, 88% cited student debt and concerns about the risk of suicide as leading stressors for veterinarians.👉More than 90% of respondents reported that the shortage of qualified veterinary staff has been one of the biggest concerns.👉The percentage of veterinarians with serious psychological distress has increased to 9.7% in 2021 as measured by the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale, compared to 6.4% in 2019, due in large part to the ongoing pandemic. 👉Among staff, the prevalence of serious psychological distress was nearly twice as high (18.1%). In addition, half of staff respondents (49.6%) and approximately one-third (30.5%) of veterinarians reported high levels of burnout.
