21 Questions with Dr. Brittney Kilgore
Monday Jan 30, 2023
Monday Jan 30, 2023
It takes a long time to become a veterinarian.
In addition to elementary school and high school, there is undergrad and then another several years completing a DVM. But when all is said and done, endless opportunities await, and that’s a very exciting feeling.
For Brittney Kilgore, every second has been worth it.
In addition to all that schooling, she has been a veterinary technician and assistant for seven years. Now, the doors are wide open for her.
Dr. Kilgore’s ultimate mission in life?
“To be happy within and outside of my career,” she says. “I want to continue to open the doors to less common avenues of veterinary medicine such as feline only medicine and integrative practices while also emphasizing how important it is to maintain your life outside of work with relationships, your health, and your own leisure.”
In five years, she hopes to be “my same self but a little wiser and experienced.” And (if the stars align) also open her own feline only hospital in the future!
Meet this veterinary rising star on 21 Questions with Vet Candy.

Ellie Fuentes wants you to overcome your perfectionism
Tuesday Jan 17, 2023
Tuesday Jan 17, 2023
According to Psychology Today, perfectionism is a trait that makes life an endless report card on accomplishments or looks. When healthy, it can be self-motivating and drive you to overcome adversity and achieve success. When unhealthy, it can be a fast and enduring track to unhappiness.
What makes extreme perfectionism so toxic is that while those in its grip desire success, they are most focused on avoiding failure, resulting in a negative orientation. They don’t believe in unconditional love, expecting others’ affection and approval to be dependent on a flawless performance.
On this episode of Living Well with Dr. Jessica, we are joined by Ellie Fuentes who tells us how we can overcome perfectionism. Ellie is a private practice therapist at Clinical Insights in New Jersey. She holds a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Fairleigh Dickinson University and is a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counsel and a Licensed Associate Counselor in the state of New Jersey.
We love you for listening!

21 Questions with Dr. Serena Nayee
Wednesday Jan 11, 2023
Wednesday Jan 11, 2023
Although Dr. Serena Nayee, deeply cares about animals, she almost chose a very different path. She has always walked a fine line between human and animal health for a long time.
Although Dr. Serena has no regrets about her choices, one of the hardest career decisions she made was to choose between animal and human health. She believes both have a serious problem with equality and accessibility.
At one point during her studies, she actually considered leaving veterinary medicine for a path towards human health. Dr. Serena found it difficult to justify the cost of veterinary studies when there was such a huge gap to fill in the world of human health.
Fortunately for animals everywhere, Dr. Serena did decide to stick with her veterinary career. While there are problems with equity and fairness in human medicine, that problem is also in veterinary medicine. Her major goal is to help close that gap.
Dr. Serena believes that one of the biggest problems facing the veterinary industry today is the inaccessibility of education and healthcare available. She believes that education and healthcare should be inclusive for everyone, and that it should not be difficult to access.
That's why she created Chapter VII!
Check her out on 21 Questions with Vet Candy and learn how she's on a mission to make veterinary care accessible to all

Friday Jan 06, 2023
Dr. Mira Tabet was 8 years old when she realized her love for animals. Ever since then, she was surrounded by dogs. Her first dog was her first best friend and partner in crime.

Her dream was realized in November 2018 when she opened her own veterinary clinic and founded Dr. Paw in Mont Liban in Lebanon.
She has loved every single day to the fullest and is excited to get to know you and your furry friends!
Vet Candy is delighted to have had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Mira to play 21 Questions. She shared the best career advice she ever received and explained the three qualities that got her where she is today.

21 Questions with Dr. Craig Clifford
Tuesday Jan 03, 2023
Tuesday Jan 03, 2023
Loving what you do for work isn’t a requirement to have a successful career.
But it sure helps!
Luckily for Dr. Craig Clifford, the hours fly by when he is at work. That’s because for this veterinarian, medical oncology and improving the lives of pets is what he was made for.
“I truly love what I do,” he says.
Dr. Clifford is a graduate of Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine and received an MS degree in Animal Science/Virology from the University of Delaware. Following an internship and a medical oncology residency at the University of Pennsylvania, he went on to later become a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Oncology) in 2003. After that, it was off to Director of Clinical Studies and Red Bank Veterinary Hospital and Hope Veterinary Specialists, where he was their first medical oncologist and Director of Clinical Studies.
His more recent accomplishments are equally impressive!
From writing and co-authoring over 50 papers and book chapters to lecturing at major veterinary meetings in the USA and abroad, Dr. Craig truly embodies the saying, “Do what you love and love what you do.”
Vet Candy is delighted to have had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Craig Clifford recently. He shared the best career advice he ever received and explained the three qualities that got him where he is today.
